What you need to know about moving out.

With the academic year coming to an end, residence hall move-out is fast approaching. Please see the tabs below for important move-out guidelines.

Hall Closing and Checkout

All residential students (aside from Express Checkout or Extended Stay applicants) on campus are required to sign up for a checkout appointment through the Housing Portal prior to leaving for the academic year. The application will close at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, May 7th for Freshman and Sophomores and Tuesday, May 14th for Juniors and Seniors. 

For current freshman and sophomores:

  1. Log in to the Housing Portal 
  2. Click on the “Appointments” tab in the top left corner
  3. Select the “For New Freshman & Rising Sophomore” tab
  4. Select a timeslot appointment based on your own availability 
  5. Checkout appointments are available between Wednesday, May 8th and Saturday, May 11th
  6. All current freshman and sophomore students are required to vacate the residence halls by 12:00 PM on Saturday, May 11th (unless otherwise approved for an Extended Stay)

For current juniors and seniors:

  1. Log in to the Housing Portal 
  2. Click on the “Appointments” tab in the top left corner
  3. Select the “For Rising Juniors & Seniors” tab
  4. Select a timeslot appointment based on your own availability 
  5. Checkout appointments are available between Wednesday, May 8th– Sunday, May 19th
  6. All current juniors and senior students are required to vacate the residence halls by 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 19th

Express Checkout

Students Living in Davis or Opus are not eligible to participate in the Express Checkout process. 

To expedite the checkout process, the first roommate to move out of a bedroom may opt out of a room inspection with a staff member and choose to take advantage of the Express Checkout service. By using this service, the resident leaving without a full inspection waives the right to appeal charges incurred due to damage in the room, and BOTH roommates agree to split any damage charges equally, unless noted upon Express Checkout. Residents who are concerned about room damages and associated charges are strongly encouraged NOT to use Express Checkout service. Sign up for Express Checkout through the Housing Portal. The Express Checkout form will be open beginning Tuesday, April 30th.

Cox Cable Box Return

If you are leaving campus for the summer, you must return your Cox Cable box before leaving. If your box is not returned, Cox Cable may assess fees against your Cox account. Creighton University is not responsible for cable boxes left behind and not returned to Cox.  

Cox Communications will be on campus on the following dates and times for cable box returns: 

  • Thursday, May 9th– 10:00am to 2:00pm at St. John’s Fountain
  • Friday, May 10th– 10:00am to 2:00pm at St. John’s Fountain
  • Saturday, May 11th– 9:00am to 1:00pm at St. John’s Fountain 

Cable boxes may also be returned directly to a Cox Solutions Store.  

Damage Billing

Residents are responsible for all damage repairs and excessive cleaning in their room. Damage bills will be sent to all students with an outstanding balance on Friday, May 31st, 2019.  Payment of damage bills will be due by June 14th, 2019. Damage notices will be sent to Creighton email accounts. 

If you are returning to Creighton housing, you are expected to pay any damages during the summer. Damages will not be deducted from the $100 damage deposit. All students returning to on-campus housing must maintain a damage deposit of $100.  

If you are withdrawing, graduating, or leaving Creighton housing, damage charges will be applied to your damage deposit. If the deposit is not sufficient to cover charges or fines, the student will be charged the additional amount.

Any remaining funds will be mailed to you within eight weeks. Be sure to update your mailing address in your NEST account as this is where your refund will be mailed. Students with direct deposit set-up will have their refund electronically transferred to their account. 

Unwanted Items

There are a few ways to dispose of your unwanted items at move-out.  

Give and Go Program
Creighton has partnered with Goodwill Omaha to provide an opportunity for students to donate unwanted items at move-out. Every residence hall will have large bins placed in the lobby should you wish to dispose of usable items such as clothing, small appliances, and other gently used household items. Food and large furniture items are not accepted. These bins will be available between May 6th and May 22nd, 2019. Click here for a complete list of items accepted and not accepted.

Creighton Cupboard (Food Items)
Please consider donating food items that are not expired to the Creighton Cupboard. Items can be dropped off at the donation bin on the lower level of McGloin Hall. Please contact cupboard [at] creighton [dot] edu or call 402.546.6979.

For items that are damaged or unusable, large dumpsters are provided near each hall for disposal.  

  • Deglman/Swanson Hall – Near the existing compactor on the south side of Swanson
  • Kiewit Hall – On the service road between Kiewit Hall and Skutt Student Center
  • Gallagher Hall – On the southwest side of the building
  • McGloin Hall – Near the existing dumpster on the north side of the building
  • Kenefick Hall – At the location of the regular dumpster
  • Heider Hall – Next to the existing dumpster
  • Davis Square – On the south side of 21st Street
  • Opus Hall – Along the curb on 20th Street
